Brewgie Nights

In the light Disco Superfly looks more like a Belgian than a Pale Ale
It’s hot outside Evening Groggers and that tends to make us all a little sluggish when it comes to putting on our weekend dancing shoes.  Disco Superfly by Chicago’s Mikerphone Brewing will wet your whistle and loosen those hips just in time for Saturday night.

This groovy Double Pale Ale has a beautiful dark orange-gold color often seen in the pale ale family and when you put it up to a light source it turns a brilliant yellow that makes it look almost like a Belgian.  When you first pop the can you get a nice citrus aroma with a bit of a hoppy sting. With a whopping 7% ABV though this beer is not for suckas, though it is extremely palatable compared to its hoppy brothas.

The hip cats at Mikerphone have done a great job of combing the bittersweet passion fruit flavor of the Nelson Sauvin hops with the citrus earthy tones of Simcoe hops to create an extremely smooth beer.  Even though, as a Double Pale Ale, it has twice as many hops as normal you can hardly taste them upon the initial swig.  At first you really taste the citrus tones with a refreshing lightly malted wash.  After it has sat on the tongue for a while though you start to develop a pleasant hoppy-malty aftertaste with a smidgen of earth tones that dances on your taste buds long after you have finished the beer.

A good food pairing for this beer would be summer time favorites like some smokey barbecue ribs or a nice juicy burger.  You can never go wrong when pairing citrusy/hoppy beers with smoked meat because those two flavors just compliment each other so well.  If you are going to eat something with this beer though my recommendation would be to sip on the beer until after you finish your meal. This beer is on the heavy side and full pint of it will fill you up.

Don’t let these hot days prevent you from getting to the Clambake, just sip on a cool Disco Superfly to pass the time.  Even when the sun goes down and cool night settles in stop on by your local liquor store and pick up a Disco Superfly.

Cheers!
