It is that time of year when the leafs start to turn those
familiar gold, brown, and red colors that are often seen in the fall brews
themselves. Oktoberfest and
Pumpkin beers are the most popular of the fall line-up.
This past Sunday I went to a brewery/restaurant out in
Palatine with my brothers called Emmett’s Brewing Company. The beers brewed at Emmet’s were tasty
and full of flavor but the one that stuck out to me the most was one that wasn’t
made by Emmet’s.
Post Road Pumpkin Ale is a beer made by Brooklyn Brewery in
New York City, and I have to say it was instantly one of my favorite pumpkin
brews yet. Pumpkin Ales are tough
because sometimes brewers tend to over do it on the pumpkin flavor or the other
spices but not Brooklyn Brewery.
The ale was crisp and malty with a distinct taste of pumpkin
and nutmeg that did not overpower the barely malt. Some light facts on this ale taken from the Brooklyn Brewing
web page are:
- 5.0% ABV
- Available August-November
- Contains Dickson Pumpkin, Nutmeg, and Wheat
- Orange Amber color
- Smells like Pumpkins (duh)
